Chelsea has confirmed Kurt Zouma is set to undergo surgery on an injury sustained to his anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the rest of the season.
Zouma, 21, was carried off on a stretcher during their 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday after falling awkwardly on his leg with the score still goalless.
The France international had usurped Gary Cahill in the pecking order in defence this season and had looked to be building an impressive partnership with John Terry at the back in recent weeks.
However, any hopes of representing his homeland at the European Championship’s in the summer are well and truly off the table, as he begins his rehabilitation for a six-month lay-off.
Chelsea haven’t won any of their last four matches that Zouma has not started in this season.
