Manchester City plot £80m blow out on two new defenders

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola wants to sign Crystal Palace starlet Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Leicester full-back Ben Chilwell at the end of the season, claims The Sun.

Guardiola has made signing a new left-back a priority in the summer after running out of patience with Benjamin Mendy.

The France international has only started 13 Premier League matches since joining City from Monaco in a £49m deal 18 months ago.

Mendy has suffered two serious knee injuries in that time and is currently nursing himself back to full fitness following the latest one.

Chilwell has emerged as City’s top transfer target to provide competition at left-back after enjoying an impressive campaign for Leicester.

However, it has now emerged that Guardiola also has his eyes set on 21-year-old Wan-Bissaka following several underwhelming displays from Kyle Walker this season.

Wan-Bisakka only made his Premier League debut 12 months ago but is arguably one of the best right-backs in the division.

Guardiola has already spent well over £100m on three new full-backs during his time at the club and is now plotting another significant outlay in the region of £80m.

Wan-Bissaka has completed at least 17 more tackles and interceptions combined (148) than any other player in the Premier League this season.
