West Ham have made their move to sign Andre Gomes from Barcelona, offering the Catalan club £18m for the midfielder, reports the Sunday Times.
Gomes spent last season on loan at Everton, who themselves are keen to make his move permanent.
Tottenham, too, are supposedly keeping tabs on the Portugal international, with reports earlier this month suggesting the north London side had agreed terms with Gomes over a possible switch to London.
However, the duo will face competition from the Hammers, with Manuel Pellegrini keen to strengthen his midfield this summer.
Injuries plagued the West Ham squad last season, particularly in the middle of the park, with Carlos Sanchez, Jack Wilshere, Samir Nasri and Manuel Lanzini all sidelined at one point or another.
And Pellegrini has since identified Gomes as a priority signing as he comes into his second season at the London Stadium.
The 25-year-old made 27 league appearances for Everton this season, but last started a Premier League match in the 2-0 loss at Fulham in mid-April due to suspension.
