City to shatter record for De Bruyne

Manchester City are set to shatter their club-transfer record for the second time this summer after having a bid in the region of €80m (£58.3m) accepted by Wolfsburg for midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, according to Bild Sport.

The two-time Premier League champions had already set a new record when they paid Liverpool £49m for Raheem Sterling and are set to break it once more as they take their summer expenditure well beyond £100m.

De Bruyne, 24, has been extensively linked with a move to City and is set to become Manuel Pellegrini’s third marquee signing of the summer after their improved offer was accepted.

Despite having their bid accepted, City must now negotiate the payment structure before being able to complete the deal.

The former Chelsea midfielder only joined Wolfsburg for £18m last summer but court the attention of Europe’s elite clubs following a dazzling debut campaign in the Bundesliga last season.
