Barcelona turn attentions away from Bellerin for Alves replacement

Barcelona are targeting a move for Valencia full-back Joao Cancelo after failing in their first move to re-sign Hector Bellerin from Arsenal, reports SPORT, via The Daily Mirror.

Bellerin, 21, had been identified as Barcelona’s preferred target to replace the outgoing Dani Alves but Arsenal have categorically ruled out his sale this summer which has forced Barcelona to look elsewhere.

Luis Enrique’s side are now reportedly in negotiations to sign Valencia full-back Cancelo, who still has five years remaining on the deal he signed when he joined from Benfica last summer.

The 22-year-old played in a wide range of positions this season. Despite being a right back by trade, the Cancelo has also played on the right of a front three and also at left back.

Only Andre Gomes (52) completed more dribbles for Valencia in La Liga than Cancelo this season (51).
