Chelsea defender considering his future

Gary Cahill is weighing up his Chelsea future amid speculation linking the club to unknown 20-year-old MLS defender Matt Miazga, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The England international is reportedly frustrated with his lack of first-team chances this season and any uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge has only been made worse following news they are on the verge of signing another defender this month.

Chelsea are unlikely to sign off on Cahill’s departure with a few days left in the transfer window but the 30-year-old has reportedly told friends his prospects of starting for England at the Euro’s would significantly enhance if he left the Blues this month.

Cahill has been the last three years as a regular alongside John Terry at the heart of Chelsea’s defence but has since seen his place lost to Kurt Zouma following their dreadful campaign.

The aging defender, who only signed a new four-year deal in December, has only started one league game under interim boss Guus Hiddink and wouldn’t appear to have many more first-team opportunities in the league unless there is an injury to Zouma or Terry.

In fact, prior to the start of this season only two other Chelsea players had featured in more minutes in the league over the previous three campaigns than Cahill (7,824)
