Everton consider move for Arsenal teammate if Giroud transfer fails

Everton manager Ronald Koeman will turn his attention to Danny Welbeck if a move for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud fails to materialise, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The Toffees boss has his eyes fixed on Giroud and has been courting the France international for much of the summer, but a move has stalled in recent weeks.

Koeman is keen to improve his attack following Romelu Lukaku’s big money move away from Everton, despite securing the services of Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney from Malaga and Manchester United, respectively.

However, the Dutchman is looking to add another target man to the ranks, while Welbeck has the pace to stretch opponents, which would be a boost for Koeman.

26-year-old Welbeck has been hampered by injury throughout his time at Arsenal and made just 16 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last season, eight of which were from the off.

That being said, it’s likely Arsenal would demand to at least recoup the £16m they spent to lure Welbeck to the Emirates three years ago.

Gunners head coach Arsene Wenger is prepared to sanction the sale of one of Giroud or Welbeck following Arsenal’s big money signing of Alexandre Lacazette.

Lacazette is expected to start at Wembley today when Arsenal meet Chelsea in the Community Shield.
