Roma winger given greenlight for Liverpool medical

Liverpool have moved a step closer to securing the services of top transfer target Mohamed Salah after the Roma winger was given the greenlight to travel to England and undergo his medical, reports The Daily Mail.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been locked in talks with Roma for the last month after their initial £28m bid was rejected and are now on the verge of making a significant breakthrough in discussions.

Liverpool’s sporting director, Michael Edwards, has reportedly structured a deal that will see the club match Roma’s £40m valuation and break their current transfer record that has stood since they paid £35m for Andy Carroll in January 2011.

Salah is due to fly from Cairo to London on Tuesday morning before going through the next steps of his transfer three years after turning Liverpool down to join Chelsea.

The Egypt international made no impression at Stamford Bridge but has emerged as one of the best attackers in Italy during the last two seasons and the 25-year-old will only add more speed to Liverpool’s offensive options.

Salah was one of only eight players that recorded double figures for goals (15) and assists (11) in Europe’s top five leagues last season.
