Borussia Monchengladbach have approached Bayer Leverkusen for Christoph Kramer, according to Kicker, via DW Sports.
Gladbach are currently on the market for a new central midfielder after they sold Granit Xhaka to Arsenal on Wednesday in a deal believed to be in excess of £30m.
Andre Schubert’s side have already identified Kramer, who spent two years on loan at Gladbach from 2013-2015, as one possible replacement for Xhaka, while Bayern Munich’s Sebastien Rode could also be an option.
The arrival of Julian Baumgartlinger from Mainz could pave the way for Kramer to return to Gladbach this summer.
Only two Leverkusen players averaged more tackles per game in the Bundesliga than Kramer (2.8) this season.
