Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to sign Paris Saint-Germain ace Julian Draxler if the Gunners fail to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The north London outfit have already rejected a £50m offer from Manchester City for Sanchez but fully expect Pep Guardiola’s side to return with an improved offer for the Chile international.
Sanchez, who has just 12 months remaining on his existing Arsenal deal, has been angling for a move to City all summer and it would be a surprise if the former Barcelona forward did not reunite with Guardiola before the close of play at 11pm.
However, City’s pursuit appears to hinge on whether Arsenal are able to sign a replacement in time and now the Gunners have opened discussions with PSG for Draxler, who only joined the Ligue 1 giants at the start of the year.
The Germany international was immense for PSG in the second half of last season but his future at the club is up in the air following the shock world record arrival of Neymar earlier this summer.
With Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe also on the verge of joining the Ligue 1 giants, PSG could be forced to sell some of their current players in order to balance their books, with Draxler the most likely to leave.
After helping Germany win the Confederations Cup in the summer, Draxler has only made two substitute appearances for PSG this season and may have played his last game for the club.
