Everton reject improved Stones offer

Everton have rejected a second offer of £26m from Chelsea for centre-back John Stones, according to the Telegraph.

The Blues have made the defender their primary target this summer and have already had an offer of £20m turned down for Stones, with Everton believed to be holding out for around £30m for the youngster.

Stones impressed for the Toffees last season, with his WhoScored rating (7.17) one of the best of all young players in England's top tier last term.

Everton are understandably keen to hold onto one of their prized assets after Sylvain Distin moved to Bournemouth and Antolin Alcaraz's contract was not renewed, meaning Roberto Martinez has only Stones and Phil Jagielka as his two senior centre-backs at present.
