Chelsea set to bolster frontline

Jose Mourinho’s exit has given Chelsea the all clear to make a £30m January move for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, according to the London Evening Standard.

Chelsea’s technical director Michael Emenalo reportedly recommended buying the 28-year-old in the wake of their 2-1 defeat to Leicester, in which registered his 15th goal of the season.

However, Mourinho, who was frustrated from how their summer transfer action panned out, knocked back the suggestion because he didn’t feel Vardy would suit his playing style.

The Premier League champions have since relinquished Mourinho of first-team duties for the second time in his career, paving the way for them to step up their interest in the Leicester No.9.

Claudio Ranieri’s side are currently top of the Premier League and have made it clear that they will not be selling Vardy or Riyad Mahrez in January. However, Vardy, who has three years left to run on his £40,000-a-week deal, could understandably be interested should a club of Chelsea’s magnitude firm up their interest.

The England international has been in sensational form this season and has scored at least three more goals than any other player in the Premier League (15).
