Leverkusen striker pens new deal

Bayer Leverkusen have announced Stefan Kiessling has agreed a new one-year contract extension keeping him at the club until June 2018.

Kiessling, 32, has spent the last 10 years at Leverkusen and has become a piece of the furniture at the Bayer Arena since making the move from Nurnberg in 2006.

The former Germany international had just over 12 months remaining on his previous deal but Leverkusen have opted to extend his contract, with the deal offering a further 12 months if certain clauses are met.

“Stefan Kiessling is an absolute role model that we wanted to keep strictly for us and out fans. That is why we have agreed that he will take over a function in the team after his professional career. For Stefan always and at any time the door is open to us,” Leverkusen’s managing director Michael Schade told the club’s website.

Since August 2011, Kiessling has won at least 420 more aerial duels than any other player in the Bundesliga, accentuating his statistically calculated strength of ‘aerial duels’.
