West Ham eye move for Chelsea outcast

West Ham are one of the sides interested in signing Chelsea left-back Emerson this summer, claims The Independent.

Emerson was excluded from Chelsea's matchday squad for last weekend's 3-1 win over Brighton and is free to leave after being deemed surplus to requirements by Frank Lampard.

Ben Chilwell's arrival from Leicester has pushed Emerson further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and the 26-year-old has now emerged as a transfer target for West Ham.

The Hammers have already been heavily linked with a move for Sead Kolasinac but the left-back wants to fight for his place at Arsenal.

David Moyes is desperate to sign a new left-back to provide competition for places with Aaron Cresswell and ease what has been a tragic summer for the club.

Inter also have a long-standing interest in Emerson, with Antonio Conte keen on a reunion with the full-back having signed him for Chelsea in January 2018.

However, the Serie A giants have already got Ashley Young and recently signed Aleksandar Kolarov.

Chelsea have a far superior win ratio in the Premier League since Emerson joined and the defender has not started (55.7%) compared to when he has featured from the off (39.1%).
