Watford agree club-record deal for new striker

Andre Gray is set to undergo his Watford medical after the Hornets agreed an £18.5m deal with Burnley, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The 26-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his existing Burnley deal and Sean Dyche’s side are unwilling to match the striker’s reported £70,000-a-week wage demands.

Gray has been heavily linked with a move to Everton already this summer, but Watford appear to have won the race for his signature as Marco Silva desperately looks to bolster the club’s offensive options.

Watford had already had two bids for Gray rejected but it was third time the charm for the Hornets, who also signed Brazilian attacker Richarlison in an £11.2m deal on Tuesday.

Gray only managed to score nine times for Burnley last season in what was his first ever top-flight campaign, but Silva hopes to bring the best out of him by partnering him in attack with Troy Deeney.

Only four players were caught offside more times in the Premier League last season than Gray (35), who served a four-game ban after being found guilty for homophobic tweets he posted in 2012.
