Manchester United have moved a step closer to signing Barcelona winger Pedro after agreeing personal terms with the Spain international, according to Sky Sports News.
The Premier League outfit have been heavily linked with the 28-year-old following the departure of their club-record signing, Angel di Maria and just need to match his £21.2m release clause in order to complete the deal.
United’s chief executive, Ed Woodward, reportedly flew out to watch Barcelona’s Spanish super cup second-leg on Monday in order to continue talks with the La Liga champions.
“Ed Woodward, the Manchester United chief executive, has been in Barcelona today, speaking to the club and the word is that a deal will be done this week one way or another,” Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague told Revista de La Liga.
“I understand a deal between the player and United is already in place and all that is left is for United to put the €30m (£21.2m) on the table. They are just negotiating how they are going to pay it, with instalments or an amount up front.
“They are very close. I’m not sure whether Barcelona will try one last time with Pedro and say ‘don’t go’, but it seems his mind is already made up.”
Pedro, 28, has largely played second fiddle to a glittering array of forward talent that has swept through the doors at the Nou Camp since his emergence in 2008. Since then, only Lionel Messi (257) has scored more goals than Pedro (58) for Barcelona in La Liga.
