Manchester United enter race for Liverpool target

Manchester United are considering a summer swoop for Watford wantaway Ismaila Sarr amid growing frustrations in pursuit of Jadon Sancho, claims The Independent.

Despite the fact talks are at impasse with Borussia Dortmund, United are still optimistic they will end up signing Sancho this summer.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have warned Dortmund they are prepared to walk away and pursue other targets if they refuse to budge on their €120m valuation.

Gareth Bale was briefly considered a short-term alternative to Sancho but the Wales international has agreed to return to Tottenham.

United have now added Sarr to their list of transfer targets but face stiff competition from Liverpool for his signature.

Watford are looking to offload Sarr following their relegation from the Premier League and have slapped a £36m asking price on the winger's head.

Sarr would more than likely prefer a move to Liverpool over United where he would reunite with Senegal international team-mate, and close friend, Sadio Mane.

Watford paid a club-record £30m to sign Sarr from Ligue 1 side Rennes last season and the 22-year-old enjoyed an encouraging campaign despite the club's relegation.

Sarr's best performances arguably came home and away to Liverpool, playing a key role in Watford becoming the first side to defeat the Reds in a Premier League game last season.

The Watford winger played a direct hand in nine goals in his maiden Premier League campaign, but boasted the third worst dribble success rate (50+ attempted) of all wingers in the division (49%).
