Former Tottenham manager wants vacant Middlesbrough post
Harry Redknapp has emerged as a surprise contender for the vacant Middlesbrough job, reports The Daily Mail.
The former Tottenham manager hasn’t worked in the Premier League since a disastrous spell at Queens Park Rangers in 2015 but did take charge of Jordan in a bizarre stint as national manager last year.
Middlesbrough are on the look out for a new manager after sacking Aitor Karanka after three-and-a-half years at the helm with their Premier League status on the line and Redknapp is ready to return to management should caretaker boss Steve Agnew’s spell prove unsuccessful.
Boro chairman is keen for Agnew to prove his credentials and carry out the job until the end of the season, but the club’s decision to appoint Joe Jordan, a coach that has been Redknapp’s No.2 at a number of clubs, as his assistant manager has perhaps let the door open for the 70-year-old.
The Premier League strugglers are not the only club on Redknapp’s radar, with the experienced manager also in the running for the Ghana post after Avram Grant stepped down following the Africa Cup of Nations at the start of the year.
For anyone that takes charge of Middlesbrough, their immediate task will be to get them scoring goals again. They have only scored 19 in the Premier League this season, which is by far the lowest total of any team in the division.
