Premier League boss could be sacked this weekend

Aitor Karanka’s job at Middlesbrough is hanging by a thread and he could be sacked if they fail to get a positive result at home to Manchester United on Sunday, reports The Daily Mirror.

Middlesbrough are three points adrift of safety ahead of the weekend’s action after a poor run of form has seen the newly promoted side plummet down the table.

Karanka’s position at the club has been far from ideal at the best of times since becoming manager of the Riverside club in 2013 and the 43-year-old’s time at Boro appears to be nearing its conclusion.

Middlesbrough are understandably concerned about their Premier League status and could look to change their manager after their clash with United when they will have the fortnightly international break to bring in a suitable replacement.

While Karanka’s side have rarely been beaten comprehensively this season, scoring goals has been the big problem. They have only scored 30 goals in the Premier League thus far, fewer than the likes of Liverpool (35) and Arsenal (31), but damningly, no team in England’s top six tiers have scored fewer goals than Middlesbrough (19).
