Quartet of Premier League clubs chase United winger

Manchester United are bracing themselves for interest from Everton, Swansea, Watford and West Brom for Ashley Young in January, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Young has only made three appearances for United since the start of October, including in their 2-0 win away to Zorya on Thursday, and doesn’t appear to have a long-term future under Jose Mourinho.

With the club still fighting on four fronts this season, there will be opportunities for some of United’s fringe players throughout the season, although the club are keen to shift some of the deadwood from their wage bill.

Watford’s interest could prove particularly decisive in Young’s future, with the former England international still contracted to United until 2018. The 31-year-old started his career with the Hornets before earning moves to Aston Villa and later United in 2011.

Young has never been a regular in the United team and his involvement has only diminished in each passing season, although he did start 23 games in Louis van Gaal’s first season at the club. In fact, since joining United for £15m in 2011, Young has only started in 41.7% of their league games.
