Real Betis pull off coup to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has joined Spanish side Real Betis on a season-long loan deal.

The 22-year-old emerged as a key player for PSG last season but has been pushed to the fringes by Thomas Tuchel since his arrival over the summer.

Betis have swooped for the Argentina international and also have an option to make the switch permanent, believed to be for a reported €30m fee.

Rather than using the likes of Julian Draxler and Lo Celso, Tuchel is reportedly keen to blood through some of the club’s youngsters.

Betis have already made some impressive acquisitions this summer, notably signing Euro 2016 winner William Carvalho from Sporting.

The Spanish side have made a disappointing start to the season, taking one point from their first two league games.

Lo Celso, who made Argentina’s squad for the 2018 World Cup but failed to make a single appearance, made 33 appearances for PSG in the league last season.

He scored four goals and provided three assists from central midfield. Of Ligue 1 players that made at least 30 appearances last term, Lo Celso won the most tackles per 90 (3.9).
