Manchester United target Gareth Bale insists he remains very happy and committed to Real Madrid, but admits you cannot predict the future.
Doubts had been cast over Bale’s future in the Spanish capital in the wake of Rafa Benitez’s sacking, but the Welshman was on hand to score a hat-trick in Zinedine Zidane’s first game in charge.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a return to the Premier League ever since making the world record move from Spurs in 2013, but he has always remained completely committed to making it work in Madrid.
“I had a very good relationship with Rafa. Obviously it was a bit disappointing to see him go but things like this happen in football and you’re professional, you get on with it and you carry on,” he is quoted as saying by AS.
“He [Zidane] is a legend, not just of the club but world football. We had a chat when he first came in. And no matter what, I’ll give 100 per cent on the football pitch.
“I’m happy at the moment; you can never predict what happens in the future, but I’m enjoying my football at the moment so I’ll keep going.”
Bale is currently enjoying a fantastic run of form, having scored eight goals in his last four matches for Madrid, to move his tally for the season to 12 league goals. Moreover, no Madrid player has garnered a better WhoScored rating than Bale in La Liga this season (8.07).
