Liverpool close in on blockbuster move for Chelsea target with €70m offer

Liverpool have rekindled talks with Roma for the signing of top goalkeeping target Alisson, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Jurgen Klopp has made signing a new goalkeeper a priority this summer and has earmarked Alisson as his top transfer target.

The Merseyside outfit have been heavily linked with a move for Alisson in the last 12 months but had previously refused to meet Roma’s asking price.

Alisson has emerged as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe since the start of last season and Roma want to command in excess of £65m for his signature.

Real Madrid were mooted with a move for the Brazil international at the start of the summer but are now understood to be targeting Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois has entered the final 12 months of his current Chelsea deal and the Premier League giants are open to the idea of selling the 26-year-old.

Chelsea have also made Alisson their top choice to replace Courtois but now face the prospect of missing out on the Brazilian.

Liverpool are the clear favourites for the Roma goalkeeper and have reportedly tabled a stunning €70m (£62m) bid for the 25-year-old, but have been told to increase their bid to €75m (£66m).

Only Pepe Reina (18) kept more clean sheets than Alisson (17) in Serie A last season.
