Tottenham announce when Kane will return from injury

Tottenham have announced Harry Kane has damaged lateral ligaments in his right ankle but expect their star man to return to training next month.

Kane was forced off midway through the first half of Tottenham’s 4-1 win away to Bournemouth on Sunday after rolling his ankle in a collision with goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Tottenham hoped to discover the extent of his injury on Monday amid fears he could miss the 2018 World Cup but swelling around the ankle forced them to delay his scan.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have now announced preliminary tests have come back better than expected and they expect the England international to return to training next month.

“Preliminary assessments have confirmed that Harry Kane ahs damaged lateral ligaments in his right ankle,” a statement read on their official Twitter account.

“The England striker sustained the injury following a challenge in our 4-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday and is expected to return to first team training next month.”

It means that Kane will miss England’s friendlies against Holland and Italy at the end of the month, as well as Tottenham’s FA Cup quarter final against Swansea on Saturday.

However, the upcoming international break means Kane will not miss many of Tottenham’s remaining eight Premier League matches.

No player in Europe’s top five leagues has scored more goals than Kane this season (24).
