Gareth Southgate has handed Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford his first England senior call-up after replacing Tom Heaton in the squad, the FA has announced.
Heaton has returned to Burnley after picking up a minor injury in training prior to England’s 2018 World Cup qualifier away to Slovenia on Tuesday.
Pickford, 22, has impressed between the sticks for Sunderland in recent weeks and has joined up with the senior squad as third choice behind Joe Hart and Fraser Forster.
Only Heaton (28) has made more saves in the Premier League this season than Pickford (27).
