Crystal Palace want Arsenal midfielder

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson wants to reunite with Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere in January, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The Eagles are currently bottom of the Premier League and six points adrift of safety with Hodgson expected to dip into the January transfer market to help salvage the club’s season.

Hodgson is now looking at the prospect of bringing in Wilshere, who has failed to establish himself in the Arsenal first-team since recovering from injury at the end of September.

The Palace manager wanted to build the England team around Wilshere when he was in charge of the Three Lions, but the 25-year-old’s inability to stay fit ensured that rarely happened on the international scene.

With the 2018 World Cup around the corner, there might be a chance that another team could prise Wilshere away from the Emirates if he feels his chances of making the England squad will be enhanced playing elsewhere.

However, Wilshere’s priority is to force his way back into the reckoning at Arsenal and earn a new contract, as his is due to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Despite a number of withdrawals from the England squad, Gareth Southgate overlooked Wilshere in favour of Jack Cork and Jake Livermore, emphasising that Wilshere needs game time to get an England recall.

Wilshere has been promised a run in the Arsenal first-team at some point but so far he has only mustered 25 minutes of playing time over two substitute appearances in the Premier League.
