Daniel Sturridge nears West Brom return

Daniel Sturridge is just over a week away from making his first-team return for West Brom, reports Sky Sports.

West Brom signed Sturridge from Liverpool in January on loan for the remainder of the season but the 28-year-old has been limited to just three appearances for Alan Pardew’s side.

Sturridge has struggled with recurring injuries in recent years and his woes have continued since joining West Brom at the start of the year.

Pardew gambled on signing Sturridge to enhance their chances of beating the drop but it’s a decision that has backfired so far.

West Brom are bottom of the Premier League and 10 points adrift of safety with seven games remaining to salvage their top-flight status.

Sturridge has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury in the first four minutes of West Brom’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at the start of February.

The England international will miss out against Burnley at the weekend but has pencilled in a return against Swansea the following weekend.

Pardew will need Sturridge to make an immediate impact upon his return as West Brom’s hopes of beating the drop are fading quickly.

Given Sturridge has only scored two goals in 509 minutes of Premier League action this season, it’s unlikely his return will have the desired effect.
