WhoScored.com can reveal Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette has been named the Player of the Month for August after finishing the first month of the season with the highest rating (8.52) in Ligue 1.
There was a large Zlatan Ibrahimovic shaped hole that need filling in Ligue 1 over the summer and Lacazette has already staked a major claim to be the new face of France’s top division. While the Lyon frontman exploded into life, Arsenal fans were best to avoid Ligue 1 coverage in August.
After failing to sign the striker, Lacazette has quickly raced into an early lead as Europe’s top scorer. Six goals in three matches has given OL a solid start to the campaign but an injury in his last outing should now allow his European rivals to cut into his tally.
The 25-year-old has also earned the WhoScored.com Man of the Match award in two of Lyon’s three league matches. Arsenal fans could be made to rue missing out on his signature if he can continue at this pace for the rest of the season.
