Atletico Madrid announced on Wednesday evening the arrival of Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera on a three-year deal.
Herrera joins Atletico on a free transfer after his contract with Liga NOS giants Porto expired at the start of the week.
The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Atletico for most of the year and has finally secured a transfer to Diego Simeone’s side.
Atletico announce a trio of new signings from Liga NOS on Wednesday after confirming Felipe’s arrival from Porto in a deal worth €20m and Joao Felix’s blockbuster €126m deal from Benfica.
Herrera will bolster Simeone’s midfield options for the new campaign, with Rodrigo on the brink of completing a €70m move to Manchester City.
Atletico have already confirmed Rodrigo’s release clause has been paid and a move will be made official by the Premier League champions in the next 24 hours.
Only Benfica duo Pizzi (4017) and Alejandro Grimaldo (3565) have attempted more passes than Herrera (3385) in Liga NOS since August 2017.
