Davinson Sanchez has told Ajax he wants to join Tottenham to hand Mauricio Pochettino’s side a huge boost in their pursuit of the defender, reports The Independent.
The Colombia international was left out of the Ajax squad that slipped to a shock defeat to Heracles on the opening weekend of the season amid intense speculation linking the defender with a move to Tottenham.
Pochettino’s side have already had one bid rejected by Ajax but are expected to return with an offer in the region of £28m, although reports in Holland suggest the Dutch giants are holding out for £35m.
The 21-year-old turned down the chance to join Barcelona last summer in order to sign for Ajax and the towering defender played a huge part in their run all the way to the Europa League final.
Manchester United exploited some of his weaknesses in the final but Chelsea and Real Madrid are among the teams that have reportedly expressed an interest in Sanchez this summer.
However, Tottenham are in pole position for his signature after Sanchez informed Ajax of his desire to join Pochettino’s side.
Since the start of last season, only three Eredivisie players have completed more passes in their own half of the pitch than Sanchez (1154).
