Leicester midfielder could miss rest of the season

Leicester manager Claude Puel fears Vicente Iborra has played his final game of the season after picking up a hamstring injury against Newcastle on Saturday.

Iborra sustained the injury just before half-time in Leicester’s 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle and was replaced by 20-year-old Hamza Choudhury.

Leicester have already lost Matty James for the reason for the season through injury, while star midfielder Wilfred Ndidi still has a one-match ban to serve.

With Iborra set for a spell on the sidelines, it leaves Puel with Adrien Silva as the only senior central midfielder available at the club for next weekend’s trip to Burnley.

“I think perhaps we lost Iborra until the end of the season,” Puel told talkSPORT, via the Leicester Mercury.

“Iborra has a hamstring injury and we have to see. He will be examined and undergo tests tomorrow but we are unlucky at this end of the season with our midfielders.”

Leicester are now six points adrift of Burnley in the race to finish seventh and defeat to the Clarets next weekend will end their chances of leapfrogging Sean Dyches’ side.

Iborra has enjoyed an impressive first season in the Premier League after joining Leicester from Sevilla last summer.

The 30-year-old has scored three goals in 17 league appearances, including two in his last three.
