Chelsea have announced the shock arrival of Napoli star Jorginho on a five-year deal until 2023.
Jorginho has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City all summer but has sensationally ended up at Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola earmarked Jorginho as his top midfield target after cooling his interest in now-Manchester United midfielder Fred.
The Premier League champions failed to agree a price with Napoli despite months of talks and now Chelsea have successfully hi-jacked a move for the midfielder.
Chelsea have reportedly agreed to pay £50m to sign Jorginho and his manager Maurizio Sarri to kickstart what has been a thoroughly dismal summer for the west London outfit.
“I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea,” Jorginho told the club’s official website. “It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy. I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win.”
Jorginho is regarded as one of the best technical midfielders in Europe and will only help Sarri implement his philosophy at Stamford Bridge.
The 26-year-old will now form a mouthwatering midfield partnership alongside N’Golo Kante, as Chelsea plot their way back to the summit of English football.
Jorginho has completed more passes than any other Serie A player in the last two seasons (5,256), while only Lucas Torreira (317) has won possession in the middle third on more occasions than Chelsea’s new signing during the same period (310).
