Southampton manager facing sack

Southampton manager Claude Puel is under threat of losing his job after just one season at the club, claims The Daily Mirror.

Puel was made Ronald Koeman’s successor last summer and led the club to the EFL Cup final earlier in the year but it has been an underwhelming campaign in the league that has put the Frenchman in danger of the sack.

Southampton finished sixth last season but are currently labouring in mid-table, with the futures of a number of their best players in question and the club will review the campaign at the end of the season with a view to replacing Puel.

Virgil van Dijk is expected to leave in the summer after establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, while Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares have also been touted with high profile moves.

Puel has also not endeared himself to Dusan Tadic this season, with the Serbia international unhappy at how he has been managed in games this season.

The 55-year-old has almost lost (18) as many games as he has won (19) as Southampton manager and it is not mathematically impossible for the club to match the 63 points they registered in the league last season in their five remaining matches.
