Everton have announced they have sacked Ronald Koeman after their dismal start to the season.
The Merseysiders have only won two of their opening nine Premier League fixtures and they currently occupy the final position in the bottom three.
Everton were thrashed 5-2 at home to Arsenal on Sunday and Koeman even admitted himself after the match that he was unsure whether he still had a future at the club.
However, the Toffees have made the decision to sack Koeman after 16 months in charge and will now begin their search for his immediate successor.
“Everton football club can confirm that Ronald Koeman has left the club,” a statement read.
“Chairman Bill Kenwright, the board of directors and major shareholder Farhad Moshiri would all like to express their gratitude to Ronald for the service he has given to the club over the past 16 months and for guiding the club to seventh place in last season’s Premier League campaign.”
Koeman was appointed Everton boss in June 2016 and was billed as the manager to take the club to the next level.
After some positive signs during his first campaign, Everton backed the Dutchman and spent in excess of £100m in the summer to match his ambitions.
However, it has been nothing short of a disaster this season. Heavy defeats against Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal mean that only two teams have conceded more Premier League goals than Everton (18) this season.
