Arsenal have been handed a huge boost with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ready to snub interest from Liverpool and sign a new long-term contract with Arsene Wenger’s side, claims The Daily Mirror.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has entered the final 12 months of his current Arsenal deal and there were doubts whether he would look to continue at the Emirates after struggling to nail down a regular role under Wenger.
The England international has arguably just enjoyed his best ever season for Arsenal but failed to carve out a defined role in the team and even finished the campaign ahead of Hector Bellerin at right wing-back.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is understood to be a huge admirer of Oxlade-Chamberlain and reports have suggested all season than the German would look to firm up his interest this summer, but their impending £35m deal with Roma for Mohamed Salah may have put an end to that.
Nevertheless, Wenger’s side have finally entered talks with Oxlade-Chamerblain’s representatives about a new deal and are reportedly prepared to offer the 23-year-old a fresh contract in excess of £100,000-a-week.
Oxlade-Chamberlain provided seven assists in the Premier League this season, as many as he had managed in his previous 5 league campaigns combined.
