Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of French midfielder Jordan Veretout, according to French publication L'Equipe.
Liverpool and Tottenham had both been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old, but Villa appear to have won the race to secure his services for a reported £10m.
Nantes president Waldemar Kita announced on Monday that a deal was close to completion and that he was powerless to stop Veretout from departing for pastures new.
"We are basically agreed on everything," Kita told L'Equipe.
"I am obliged to give in, he is 22, he has a big future and he will play for a great English club."
His move away from the club will come as a blow to Nantes. Veretout was the club's third highest rated player (7.07) last season, netting more goals (7) and registering more assists (6) than any other Nantes player.
Furthermore, only two players played more key passes than Veretout (72) in Ligue 1 last season.
Should Villa sign Veretout, he will become the club's fourth summer signing from France following the arrivals of Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Amavi and Jordan Ayew.
