Manchester United academy graduate agrees huge long-term deal
Jesse Lingard has agreed a new four-year deal with Manchester United worth a stunning £100,000-a-week, according to Sky Sports.
The 24-year-old’s current deal is due to expire at the end of next season but the versatile forward has impressed Jose Mourinho and will now almost treble his current wages.
Lingard joined the United academy when he was seven before penning his first professional contract in 2011.
Any hopes of turning out for the United first-team on a regular basis appeared to have taken a huge knock when he suffered a serious knee injury on the opening weekend of Louis van Gaal’s first season in charge, but he has managed to re-establish himself as a first-team player since then.
Despite not being the most spectacular footballer to watch, Lingard does offer tactical ingenuity that no other United player can and he has already proved capable of decisive moments in big matches.
In fact, Lingard has only scored one more goal at Old Trafford (4) for United than he has managed when playing at Wembley for the Red Devils.
