Jan Vertonghen is expected to be the next Tottenham player to sign a new contract at the club, reports the London Evening Standard.
The Belgian had played every minute of the Premier League season prior to a knee injury sustained in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at the end of January.
Vertonghen is due back in training in the coming weeks and Spurs are hoping he will put pen to paper on a deal that would expire in 2019, increasing his wages to £50k-a-week, before his return to fitness.
The 28-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign at White Hart Lane this term prior to injury, forming a solid centre-back partnership with compatriot Toby Alderweireld and has played a key role in a defence that has conceded the fewest goals (24) in the Premier League this season.
Vertonghen signing a new deal with the north London side would come as a boost to Spurs, who had previously held unsuccessful talks with the player's representatives over an extention to his current contract.
However, the centre-back is happy and settled in the English capital and more inclined to extend his stay at Spurs, following in the footsteps of compatriot Mousa Dembele, who signed a fresh deal with the club earlier in the year.
