Newcastle have entered talks with Liverpool to re-sign Jose Enrique, according to The Guardian.
Enrique, 30, has entered the final six months of his current deal at Anfield and has no future at the club.
The Spanish full-back left Newcastle to join Liverpool in 2011 but has spent the bulk of the last three years either injured or out of favour.
Newcastle are on the market for a left-back and missed out on bringing Atletico Madrid’s Guilherme Siqueira over the weekend.
Steve McClaren’s men are now in talks with Liverpool regarding a possible return to St. James’ Park, but there will need to be a compromise in the players’ reported £80,000-a-week wages for it to happen.
Enrique has only made three FA Cup appearances for Liverpool in the last 12 months and hasn’t featured in the Premier League since January 17, 2015 (vs Aston Villa).
