Manchester United to trigger Cavani contract extension

Manchester United plan to trigger a 12-month contract extension in Edinson Cavani's deal, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Cavani is less than six months into his current one-year deal with the Red Devils but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is pleased with the impact made by the former Paris Saint-Germain striker.

The Uruguay international is yet to get a decent run in the side due to injury and COVID-19 restrictions but has made vital contributions from the bench.

Cavani also has an FA charge looming over his head but the Red Devils are expected to secure his services beyond the end of the current campaign.

Solskjaer is still desperate to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund after missing out on his signature just over 12 months ago.

Neither Anthony Martial nor Marcus Rashford have consistently found the back of the net, while Mason Greenwood is still developing.

The hope is the aforementioned trio can learn from Cavani and he has certainly proved his worth thus far with more goal contributions in the Premier League as a substitute than any other player (5).
