Zidane leaves Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane has announced his departure as Real Madrid head coach just five days after guiding the Spanish giants to Champions League success.

The Frenchman has never not won the Champions League as a manager and a 3-1 win over Liverpool saw him become just the third manager to win the UEFA European Cup three times.

In total, Zidane was in charge of Real Madrid for just 878 days, but won nine trophies in his short stint at the Bernabeu helm.

To go with his three Champions League winners’ medals, the French manager also won the FIFA World Club Cup twice, the UEFA Super Cup twice, the Supercopa de España and La Liga.

Zidane has already been installed as one of the favourites to take over as Chelsea boss, though the 45-year-old insists he will have a break from the game.

It remains to be seen who will succeed Zidane as Real Madrid head coach, though former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been mooted as his successor, while Real Madrid youth coach Guti is also an option for the European champions.
