Ozil’s agent hints at new Arsenal deal

The agent of Mesut Ozil has hinted his client could extend his stay at Arsenal beyond the end of the season after revealing ongoing contract talks with the Gunners are progressing well.

Ozil’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and Arsenal have so far been unsuccessful in convincing the Germany international to pledge his long-term future to the club.

Manchester United are reportedly plotting a January move for the 28-year-old but Jose Mourinho could miss out on the chance to reunite with the Arsenal No.11 after his agent, Dr Erkut Sogut, hinted at a breakthrough in talks with Arsenal.

“Ozil wants to play another two to three years in the Premier League,” he told Sky Sports. “Our contacts with Arsenal continue and are going in a positive way.”

Arsenal have so far been unwilling to match Ozil’s staggering wage demands but the former Real Madrid midfielder may be forced to climbdown on his reported £330,000-a-week demands after there were no suitors for his signature over the summer.

Ozil has missed Arsenal’s last two matches and was not selected for Germany’s recent internationals after struggling with a knee injury but he is poised to return to first-team action against Watford this weekend.

Since joining Arsenal from Madrid in the summer of 2013, Ozil has registered the most assists in the Premier League (42).
