Premier League midfielder confirms Paris Saint-Germain interest

Abdoulaye Doucoure has confirmed he wants to leave Watford and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing him.

PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel is desperate to bolster his midfield options this month and Doucoure has emerged as a potential transfer target.

With Adrien Rabiot frozen out and reports claiming Lass Diarra will retire this month, PSG could be left short in midfield for the remainder of the season.

Everton star Idrissa Gueye has been heavily linked with a move to PSG but Doucoure has revealed his intentions to join Tuchel’s side.

“I think I am going to leave Watford,” he told Canal Plus, via Sky Sports. “The club know my ambitions and want to help me get to the next level.

“I’m flattered by the interest of PSG but for the moment there’s nothing concrete. I will focus on my performance for my club.

“I’ve not had contact with PSG and they’ve not contacted Watford. My goal is to play well for Watford and then maybe join a Champions League team.

“This winter we’ll study all possibilities on offer. The most important thing is for me to continue to progress and with my performances.

“Staying in England is a possibility and the Italian league is becoming more interesting. There are clubs who have returned to show interest in me again.

“The first criteria for me is that the club plays in the Champions League."

Doucoure has established himself as one of the best midfielders outside of the top-six clubs in the last 18 months.

Chelsea and Manchester United were linked with a move for the 26-year-old but their interest appears to have subsided.

Since the beginning of last season, Doucoure has won possession in the middle third more times than any other player in the Premier League (288).
