Wolfsburg have had a staggering £20.5m bid for 18-year-old Breel Embolo rejected by Swiss side Basel, according to German publication Kicker.
Dieter Hecking is keen to bolster his offensive options following the news he will be without star striker Bas Dost for up to six weeks with a fractured foot and has seemingly marked teenage sensation Embolo as the man to deputise in his absence.
However, Wolfsburg will reportedly have to increase their offer beyond £30m to land the striker or look for alternative options after failing with their opening bid.
Basel are keen to keep hold of the Switzerland international until the summer at the very least as they current lead the Swiss Super League by 10 points.
Embolo’s performances have been particularly impressive in the Europa League, where he has netted twice in five appearances. However, he is still incredibly raw, which is highlighted by the fact only one player has been dispossessed more times in Uefa’s second-tier competition than Embolo this season (19).
