Pellegrini extends City contract

Manuel Pellegrini has signed a new two-year contract at Manchester City, the club has confirmed.

Rumours had suggested Pellegrini would be one of the first sackings of the season following City's inability to defend their Premier League crown.

However, the Chilean has penned a new deal at the Etihad Stadium, tying him to the club until 2017.

"I am proud to manage Manchester City FC and am therefore very pleased to have agreed this contract," Pellegrini told the club's official website.

"I have a very good quality group of players and a great team of people to work with on and off the field and at all levels of the club.

"I am focused on the coming season and confident that my team and I will respond to the constant support shown to us by everyone including of course our fantastic fans."

With Pellegrini at the helm, Manchester City have become a potent offensive force, scoring more goals (179) than any other team over the last two Premier League seasons.
