United prepared to cash in on transfer flop

Manchester United are willing to cash in on Marcos Rojo when the transfer window re-opens, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The defender has struggled with injury this season following Argentina’s Copa America campaign, which resulted in defeat to hosts Chile in the final.

Rojo’s relationship with manager Louis van Gaal is believed to have reached a breaking point due to a number of off-the-field issues, with the United boss rapidly identifying his possible replacement.

Martins Indi performed admirably for the Netherlands at last summer’s World Cup under Van Gaal, earning him a move to FC Porto in the process.

The Dutchman has since earned rave reviews following his move to Portugal and excelled in Porto’s recent 2-1 Champions League win over Chelsea, earning a WhoScored rating of 7.85.

United, though, would have to pay a hefty fee to convince Porto to sell the defender, whose contract does not expire until 2018.

However, with the Manchester side prepared to sell Rojo in the New Year, they would need another defender to bolster the ranks and would be confident of raising the necessary funds to secure Martins Indi’s services.
