Crystal Palace interested in RB Leipzig starlet

Crystal Palace have expressed an interest in handing Oliver Burke a way back to England after he endured a difficult first season at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, reports Kicker, via The London Evening Standard.

Burke made the shock move to Leipzig from Nottingham Forest 12 months ago in deal worth £13m that made him the most expensive Scottish player of all-time, but he has struggled to make any impact in Germany.

It remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old still features in Leipzig’s long term plan, but Palace have put initial sounders out to see whether a potential deal could be made for the Scotland international.

Frank de Boer is short of options in attack with Wilfried Zaha set to miss the next four weeks with a knee injury and Palace are already on the back foot in the Premier League after slipping to a shock 3-0 home defeat to newly promoted Huddersfield on the opening day of the season.

In Burke’s first season in Germany, he made 25 appearances in the Bundesliga but only five of those came as a starter. In fact, only Nils Petersen (26) was subbed on more times in the Bundesliga last term than Burke (20).
