United plot shock move for former Liverpool man

Manchester United are considering a shock move for Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, according to Spanish publication Don Balon.

The Uruguay international has been a hugely effective frontman for the defending La Liga champions since moving to Camp Nou from Liverpool in 2014, netting 63 goals in 71 league appearances, while no player has scored more goals in Spain's top tier this term than the striker (7).

Suarez is now in the third year of his current deal for the Blaugrana, but has shown no signs he is prepared to put pen to paper in the foreseeable future, akin to Lionel Messi and Neymar.

At 29 years of age, Suarez is the oldest of the club’s famed frontline, which could see Barcelona cash in on the striker rather than risk losing him on a free or see his value depreciate over time.

Jose Mourinho is believed to be a fan of Suarez with the United boss pondering his options with Zlatan Ibrahimovic now 35 and on a poor run of form having netted just two goals in his last 11 appearances.

Rivals Manchester City are also monitoring the striker’s situation should they cash in on Sergio Aguero, whose future at the Etihad Stadium is in doubt after being dropped by manager Pep Guardiola in recent weeks.

Guardiola’s brother Pere also represents Suarez, which would put City in the driving seat should they firm up their interest in the Uruguay international, though they would still face stiff competition for his signature from United.
