Manchester United are interested in Espanyol left-back Aaron Martin and will continue to monitor his progress for the Spanish side, reports ESPN.

Jose Mourinho has failed to settle on a regular left-back during his time at Old Trafford and it increasingly looks like he has lost patience with Luke Shaw.

Daley Blind, Mateo Darmian, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo have all been utilised in that position and United are now casting their eye to Spain for a potential long-term solution.

Martin has established himself as a first-team regular for Espanyol over the last two seasons despite the fact he is only 20 years old.

The Spain U21 international only signed a new long-term deal with Espanyol in January but his reputation is growing and there is a feeling the La Liga side will struggle to hold onto the defender beyond the end of the current campaign.

United could face competition from rivals Manchester City for his signature and any suitor may be forced to match his full €40m (£35.6m) release clause.

Since the start of last season, no player aged 21 and under has completed more tackles in La Liga than Martin (85).
