West Brom weighing up audacious swoop for Liverpool outcast
Liverpool striker Christian Benteke has emerged as surprise target for West Brom this summer, according to The Daily Mail.
Benteke, 25, has found life tough at Anfield since making the £32m move from Aston Villa last summer and Liverpool are expected to cut their losses on the powerful striker as they look to revamp their squad in the summer.
The Belgium international has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs over the course of the summer but Tony Pulis’ West Brom are now thought to be in the mix for his signature.
Usually, Benteke would be beyond West Brom’s financial reach, but with Saido Berahino expected to leave the Hawthorns this summer, money will be available to sign a new frontman.
Any move to the Baggies wouldn’t sit well with one portion of the Midlands, following his three-year stint at rivals Villa.
Despite Benteke’s struggles, only Roberto Firmino (9) and Philippe Coutinho (8) have scored more goals than Benteke for Liverpool this season in all competitions (7).
